INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian head massage is an ancient therapy that has its roots in Ayurvedic healing (developed over a thousand years ago by holy men of the Himalayas).  Modern day Indian head massage involves an upright, seated massage to the scalp, neck, face, upper back, shoulders and upper arms to relieve tension, improve the efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems, as well as to eliminate toxins and increase flexibility

What are the Benefits?

What can I expect from a treatment session?

On your first visit you will attend a short consultation that will provide your therapist with an understanding of your current state of health and lifestyle, including any relevant medical issues.

The client will remain seated for the duration of the massage (which usually lasts approximately 50 minutes), ideally wearing a camisole or vest top with thin straps. Treatment begins with a massage of the neck and shoulders, followed by the scalp. The scalp is squeezed, rubbed, tapped and prodded, the hair is tugged and then combed with the therapist’s fingernails. Finally, the face is worked on, pressing acupressure points to relieve sinus pressure, stimulate blood circulation and increase alertness.

Once the practical treatment is complete, you will be given a glass of water and provided with aftercare advice to maximise the benefits of the massage.

Will it hurt?

Some points may feel tender or sore, but in general the treatment feels divine.

Will anything strange happen?

The touch is very gentle and quite intimate. Some clients may experience heightened emotions during the treatment.

As with any therapy that promotes the removal of waste products and toxins, some clients may experience a range of symptoms after the treatment, (lasting from an hour to a couple of days). This could include an increased need to go to the toilet, light-headedness, aches and pains, flu-like symptoms, headaches, vivid dreams or strong emotions.  If experienced, these symptoms should be taken as a positive sign that the treatment is working and benefiting the client on the path to healing.

Will I be given anything to take?

You will be given a glass of water and encouraged to increase your daily water intake for the next couple of days to aid with the elimination of toxins.
